Groups

We have a new Groups Co-ordinator, her name is Sheelagh and she has some ideas about starting new groups.

Most members agree that taking part in interest groups is one of the most enjoyable benefits of joining their u3a.  It’s a great way to learn something new, help show others something new and make friends.

Our smallest groups comprise a handful of members meeting in a host’s home, while our larger groups meet either in a community venue or out and about, or a mixture of the two. Where groups meet in a community venue, the rental cost is divided equally between the group members.  When meeting in a host’s home a contribution is usually made towards tea and coffee.

We’re always looking to start new groups, so if a group you want to find isn’t there, or the group you want to join is full, please volunteer to start a new one.  Email our Groups Co-ordinator will give you plenty of support and advice.

What does a group leader do?

A group leader is someone who is the contact for the group. A group leader will remind the members of the group when the next meeting is taking place - using our Beacon membership system to safely email the group members.

A group leader decides with the group how the group will run and how often. There isn't too much to do and you can always ask another person to assist you. This does enable you to not be available at a meeting.

Our Group Co-ordinator is available to help you. If you need to know how to use Beacon you will be given some training. Beacon isnt difficult to use, especially if you are a regular user of email.

If it says that a group has a waiting list this indicates that we are hoping to start another group.
